finding spot is a short doc about a transnational adoptee and burn survivor.
Sela Betz has always subconsciously wondered why she survived a fire as a three-year-old. That realization in her twenties catalyzed the quest to uncover her past and find her Chinese birth family. Throughout this journey, her chosen family was with her the entire way, because what she hoped to find could either help her heal or open wounds she was not ready to face.
It explores the universal need for safety—what it means to have it, and what happens when you don’t.

Thanks for holding space for my story. In April 2025, I returned to Maine from a 3-week trip abroad to learn more about my past. It was a wild ride, felt like a movie.
